Sergei Rachmaninoff was a renowned Russian composer, pianist, and conductor whose expressive and lyrical music marks him as one of the last great Romantic composers. Born in 1873, he showed early musical talent and trained at the Moscow Conservatory. Despite a setback after the poor reception of his First Symphony, Rachmaninoff found success with works like his iconic Piano Concerto No. 2.
Highly regarded as a pianist, Rachmaninoff’s compositions often feature the piano and are known for their rich harmonies and emotional depth. He served as conductor of the Bolshoi Theatre and later moved to the United States after the Russian Revolution. Rachmaninoff spent his later years performing internationally, while his compositional output diminished. He died in 1943 in California, leaving behind a legacy of deeply influential and beloved music.
