Lake

Emerson, Lake and Palmer, known as ELP, were an English progressive rock supergroup formed in London in 1970. The band featured Keith Emerson on keyboards, Greg Lake as vocalist, bassist and guitarist, and Carl Palmer on drums and percussion. ELP quickly became one of the most popular and influential progressive rock acts of the 1970s, selling over 48 million albums worldwide and earning nine gold records in the US. Their music blended rock with classical, jazz, and symphonic elements, highlighted by Emerson’s virtuoso keyboard work, including the Hammond organ, Moog synthesizer, and piano, while Lake contributed memorable acoustic songs. Their early albums, including Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Tarkus, Trilogy, and Brain Salad Surgery, achieved major chart success and are considered classics of the genre. ELP were renowned for their powerful live performances and ambitious arrangements, often reinterpreting pieces of classical music with a rock twist. After a split in 1979, the band reunited in various forms over the following decades before returning as the original trio in the 1990s for further albums and tours. Their final performance was in 2010, marking their 40th anniversary. Emerson and Lake passed away in 2016, leaving Palmer as the last surviving member. ELP are remembered for pioneering the fusion of classical influences and rock, leaving a lasting legacy on progressive music.
