Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem, known as The Electric Mayhem, are the iconic Muppet rock band created for The Muppet Show in 1975. As the house band, they blend comedic personalities with a love of classic rock and jazz, inspired by real-life music legends. The group features Dr. Teeth on keyboards and vocals, Animal on drums, Floyd Pepper on bass and vocals, Janice on lead guitar and vocals, Zoot on saxophone, and Lips on trumpet.
First appearing in the Muppet Show’s pilot, they quickly became fan favorites, performing in every episode, Muppet movies, and holiday specials. Their debut film performance was “Can You Picture That” in The Muppet Movie, and they continued to rock with memorable songs in later films, including performances in The Great Muppet Caper and A Muppet Family Christmas. Over the years, they have been portrayed by a talented group of puppeteers, with new performers assuming the roles as the franchise evolved.
Electric Mayhem’s influence extends beyond the screen, with the band occasionally performing live, such as their appearance at the Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival in 2016. In 2023, they starred in The Muppets Mayhem series on Disney Plus, chronicling their journey as they record their first studio album. Blending humor, musical talent, and unforgettable characters, The Electric Mayhem remains a beloved symbol of Muppet music and mayhem.
