Hailing from Oxnard, California, he emerged in the 1990s as a member of Lootpack and later explored jazz through Yesterdays New Quintet. Madlib is acclaimed for his collaborations with MF DOOM as Madvillain, J Dilla as Jaylib, and Freddie Gibbs as MadGibbs. His projects include the iconic album Madvillainy and the celebrated Piñata and Bandana. Founder of Madlib Invazion, he stands out for blending jazz, hip-hop, and world music influences throughout his work.
