Culture Club

Culture Club is a pioneering English new wave band formed in London in 1981, led by the distinctive Boy George on vocals, with Roy Hay on guitar and keyboards, and Mikey Craig on bass. The group emerged from the New Romantic scene and became one of the most influential acts of the 1980s, known for their bold blend of pop, soul, and elements of reggae and world music. Their international breakthrough came with hits like Do You Really Want to Hurt Me and Karma Chameleon, the latter topping charts worldwide and becoming the UK's best-selling single of 1983. The band's 1983 album Colour by Numbers sold over 10 million copies globally and is widely celebrated as one of the decade's essential albums. Culture Club earned multiple major awards, including Brit Awards for Best British Group and Best Single, as well as a Grammy for Best New Artist. Their iconic style and mix of musical influences helped define the era, and they remain closely associated with the MTV-driven Second British Invasion in the United States. Over their career, Culture Club has sold more than 50 million records and left a lasting impact on pop music and fashion.
