Baden Powell de Aquino, known as Baden Powell, was a legendary Brazilian guitarist and composer born in 1937. Renowned for blending classical guitar technique with popular Brazilian styles, he played bossa nova, samba, Brazilian jazz, Latin jazz, and MPB throughout his career. Powell’s innovative approach produced enduring guitar standards like Canto de Ossanha, Consolação, Samba Triste, and Samba da Benção. His collaboration with Vinicius de Moraes on the album Os Afro-sambas in 1966 is considered a landmark in Brazilian music. Widely celebrated as one of Brazil’s greatest guitarists, Powell’s influence endures in both popular and classical circles.
