Sewing Machine Feet
A sewing machine presser foot guides material during a specific operation, but it must fit the attachment and the needle's range of movement exactly. A similar appearance does not guarantee compatibility. Before purchasing, check the brand, model, shank type, stitch width, and needle position. An incorrect foot may guide the needle into a metal part.
Function according to the seam
| Presser foot | Task | Check before sewing |
|---|---|---|
| Zipper | Stitching close to the teeth | Needle position |
| Hemming | Folding a narrow edge | Fabric inlet width |
| Walking | Multiple layers and quilting | Drive mechanism |
| Teflon | Sticky or slippery surfaces | Material suitability |
Test by turning the handwheel
Attach the foot with the needle raised and manually turn the handwheel through a complete cycle before starting the machine. Check that the needle passes through the opening without touching it. Make the first stitch on a scrap before continuing on the item.
Machines and special operations
You can find the complete selection under Sewing Machines and Accessories. For knits and edge finishing, a separate overlock from the Sewing – Overlock / Coverlock Machines category may be more suitable.
Labeled storage
Store small presser feet according to their function and machine model. Remove fibers after use and protect metal parts from moisture. Keep the instructions for a less frequently used foot together with it.
