Mini Guitar Combos
A mini combo is a small guitar amplifier with a speaker built into the same enclosure. It is lightweight, easy to carry and suitable for practising at home, recording ideas or travelling. It is generally not powerful enough for loud rehearsals with a drummer, so consider output power, the headphone output, power supply and controls when choosing one.
What will you use your mini combo for?
| Use | What to consider |
|---|---|
| Home practice | Headphone output, straightforward controls and sound quality at low volume |
| Travelling | Weight, dimensions and the option of battery power, if offered by the model |
| Recording | Outputs for connection to a computer or audio interface |
| An addition to a large amplifier | Clean sound and basic tone controls |
Solid-state, valve or modelling?
Mini combos are available in different designs. The most common are solid-state combos. If you want multiple amplifier and effect simulations, explore modelling combos. For greater emphasis on natural overdrive, compare valve combos.
What to check before choosing
- How much power you need at home and how much you would want at rehearsal.
- The number of channels and available tone controls.
- A headphone output and AUX input.
- Power supply: mains adapter or batteries.
- Dimensions and weight.
The range includes models such as the Boss Katana Mini, Orange Crush Mini and Blackstar FLY 3, so compare their specific parameters. You will find a wider selection in the guitar combos category.
