Audio-Technica AT8022 Stereo Microphone

The AT8022 is a compact X/Y stereo condenser microphone combining two cardioid capsule elements in a coincident arrangement within a single handheld housing, designed for field recording, broadcast gathering, and stereo ambience capture where portability and mono compatibility are equally important. The fixed 90° X/Y capsule geometry provides a well-defined, natural stereo image with phase coherence that collapses cleanly to mono for broadcast use.

Coincident X/Y Configuration

Both cardioid capsules are mounted at the same point in space with a fixed 90° angle between them, eliminating the time delays between channels that cause comb filtering when mixed to mono. The coincident arrangement produces a stable stereo field with accurate localization that is consistent across different playback systems.

Battery and Phantom Power

The AT8022 operates on a single AA battery or 11–52V phantom power, allowing use with portable recorders, cameras, and mixing consoles without requiring an external power supply. Battery operation makes the AT8022 self-sufficient for remote location sound work, nature recording, and ENG applications where access to phantom power is unreliable.

Dual XLR Output

Left and right channels output on separate standard XLR connectors for direct connection to two-channel recorders, portable mixers, and dual-channel camera audio inputs. The housing includes a standard tripod thread and accepts boom pole adapters for flexible placement in field recording and broadcast news scenarios.
