Jozef Kroner was a renowned Slovak actor born in 1924 in Staškov. Coming from a family of actors including his brother Ľudovít, daughter Zuzana, and wife Terézia, he became one of Slovakia’s most celebrated performers. Without formal training, he began his career in amateur theater and went on to appear in more than fifty Slovak films and a number of international productions. Kroner gained international recognition for his role in the Oscar-winning film The Shop on Main Street. He is also the subject of a 1987 biography directed by Fero Fenič and wrote several largely autobiographical books. Kroner passed away in Bratislava in 1998.
