Universal Audio Volt 276

Universal Audio created Volt 276 for collaborators, from musicians and producers to livestreamers and content creators who want to easily record audio with big studio sound. Plug right in to your Mac, PC, iPad, or iPhone and Volt just shows up, ready to capture your inspiration with professional polish, courtesy of Universal Audio.
Record your voice or guitar with rich full sound using Vintage Mic Preamp mode. Add clarity and punch to voice, instruments, and other sources with an analog compressor based on UA’s iconic 1176. Produce with an essential suite of audio and music software including Ableton, Melodyne, UJAM's Virtual Drummer, Marshall, Ampeg, and more. From the team that brought you the game-changing Apollo interface, Volt 276 delivers superior studio sound quality, with more character and tone than any USB interface in its class. Few sounds can compare to a vintage Universal Audio 610 tube preamp, as used to record everyone from Ray Charles to Van Halen. Volt 276 gives you the rich, full sound of this classic UA mic/line/instrument preamp, thanks to its built-in tube emulation circuitry, a UA exclusive. Get album-ready punch and presence with Volt 276's onboard 76 Compressor — an innovative analog circuit inspired by UA's classic 1176 Limiting Amplifier. The 76 Compressor features three perfectly tailored presets to tame voice, guitars, synths, and drum machines. Just plug in, pick a setting, and play. Volt 276 gives you simple 2-in/2-out audio connections. Just plug your mics, guitars, or synths into the front panel. Then connect your speakers or headphones to monitor your audio with no latency. With Volt, you’ll be creating like a pro, fast. Traveling light? Plug Volt 276 into your iPad or iPhone, and you can easily create beats and samples, record your band’s rehearsals, and edit songs anywhere.

Build quality, look and UX are great on this thing. Very idiot-proof and simple to use. Compared to my Steinberg UR22mk2 it has more power to drive the headphones, though less goes to studio monitors. The sound is more vivid, a little less smooth, with less bass and more piercing highs. Stage has less depth but it's definitely wider. While it may sound negative, thanks to the great perceived separation of tracks, I'm able to hear much more details in recordings. I can precisely hear what this supporting background vocal buried in the background actually does, and what notes are played on the bass even in busier moments. Quality of instrument input is like day and night (again, I'm comparing to the UR22mk2, I don't have much experience with other interfaces or DI boxes). Comp in "guitar" setting brings bite and attack, and some tube-ish quality, especially evident in soloing. Adds some extra meat to the bass guitar as well. It can be noisy though, so you may have to adjust your noise gate settings. Direct monitoring is always a nice feature, but latency is so low, that there is no need to turn it on when tracking. And I'm using 10 years old Mac mini. I didn't yet try the mic preamp, as I don't record vocals and only sporadically work on acoustic gtr. I will try to add this info later if possible. Overall - for guitar direct recording, and for analytic listening/mixing, this piece of gear is well worth the money. And it feels and looks damn classy.

This is just beautiful...eats competition (in this price range) for diner. UA is known for pro audio since pro audio exists and they for sure did not disappoint this time. Easy to use, great great sound + vintage and compressor buttons are doing magic!
