George Harrison

George Harrison

George Harrison was an English musician, singer, and songwriter best known as the lead guitarist of the Beatles. Often referred to as "the quiet Beatle," he played a key role in expanding the band's musical style by introducing Indian instruments and spiritual influences. From 1965 onward, his compositions became a staple of the Beatles’ albums, including classics like "Taxman", "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", "Something", and "Here Comes the Sun". Influenced early on by jazz, rock, and Indian music, Harrison also popularized the sitar in Western pop with songs such as "Norwegian Wood". He was instrumental in leading the band’s interest in meditation and Eastern philosophies. After the Beatles, Harrison found solo success with the acclaimed album "All Things Must Pass", featuring the hit "My Sweet Lord" and his signature slide guitar sound. He organized the Concert for Bangladesh, one of the first major charity rock events, and later founded the record label Dark Horse Records and the film company HandMade Films. In 1988, he formed the supergroup Traveling Wilburys. Widely regarded as one of the greatest guitarists of all time, Harrison was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame both as a Beatle and as a solo artist. He died of cancer in 2001 at the age of 58.
