Abba

Abba

ABBA is a legendary Swedish pop group formed in Stockholm in 1972 by Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad. They achieved international fame after winning the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest with their hit "Waterloo," which has been celebrated as one of the best Eurovision songs of all time. Renowned for their catchy melodies and polished production, ABBA became one of the world’s most successful music acts, selling between 150 and 385 million records globally and ranking among the UK’s best-selling artists. During their career, the group comprised two married couples whose personal relationships and breakups influenced some of their later, more introspective songs. After disbanding in 1982, members pursued solo projects, but the legacy of ABBA continued to grow. Their greatest hits compilation ABBA Gold became a global bestseller, and their music inspired the enduring hit stage musical and blockbuster film "Mamma Mia!" ABBA was the first non-English-speaking group to achieve consistent chart success in English-dominated markets and remains Scandinavia’s best-selling band. They have been honored with inductions into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Grammy Hall of Fame, and their album Arrival was added to the US National Recording Registry in 2024 for its cultural significance. In recent years, ABBA returned to the spotlight with new music and the innovative ABBA Voyage concert residency in London, which features the band as digital avatars. Their influence spans decades, with their music continuing to connect across generations worldwide.
