Voivod is a pioneering heavy metal band from Jonquière, Quebec, known for blending speed, progressive, and thrash metal to forge a distinctive, adventurous sound. Formed in 1982 with Denis Bélanger on vocals, Denis D'Amour on guitar, Michel Langevin on drums, and Jean-Yves Thériault on bass, the band has undergone several lineup changes, with Langevin remaining a consistent presence. Voivod is recognized as a key influence in technical thrash metal and is often placed among the "Big Four" of Canadian thrash alongside Sacrifice, Razor, and Annihilator. The group gained international attention with their 1989 album Nothingface, and have released sixteen studio albums, earning critical acclaim and awards, including a Juno for The Wake in 2019. Their latest release, Morgöth Tales, arrived in 2023.
