Korg Kronos 3 61 Workstation
The Korg Kronos 3 61 is a flagship 61-key music workstation built for stage performers and studio producers who demand a single instrument that can replace an entire rack of keyboards. Nine independent sound engines deliver everything from acoustic pianos and tonewheel organs to analog modeling and physical-modeled strings, all under one powder-coated chassis. The lightweight Natural Touch semi-weighted action with aftertouch gives synth and organ players the speed and expression they need, while the 203 mm TouchView display keeps every parameter within reach.
- Nine sound engines including SGX-2 Premium Piano, EP-1 MDS Electric Piano, CX-3 Tonewheel Organ, and HD-1 PCM Synthesizer
- Enjoy a 61-key Natural Touch semi-weighted keyboard with aftertouch for expressive synth and organ performance.
- 16 onboard effects processors, 16-track MIDI sequencer, and 16-track audio recorder built in
- 120 GB internal SSD, 203 mm TouchView display, and 60% faster startup than previous generations
Korg Kronos 3 61 — The Flagship Music Workstation Returns
This 61-key music workstation is the third generation of the instrument that redefined what a single keyboard does on stage and in the studio. Nine independent sound engines, a 16-track sequencer, and a full effects rack live inside a tour-ready powder-coated chassis. Players access thousands of sounds — concert grands, tonewheel organs, analog-modeled synths, and physically modeled strings — without switching presets. The 61-key version targets synth and organ players who want portability.
What Sets the Kronos 3 61 Apart
The enhanced SGX-2 Grand Piano engine now includes four pianos — Berlin Grand, German Grand, Japanese Grand, and the new Italian Grand — captured with non-looped stereo samples. The EP-1 MDS Electric Piano engine uses Multi-Dimensional Synthesis to recreate six classic tine and reed electric pianos without looped artifacts. Rotary speaker modeling, amp modeling with overdrive, and vibrato/chorus that responds to joystick control are all found in the CX-3 Tonewheel Organ engine, which models the original 1980 Korg combo organ down to tonewheel instability.
Nine Sound Engines with Generous Polyphony
Each engine is a complete synthesizer with its own arpeggiator, filter architecture, and modulation matrix. Polyphony ranges from 40 voices on the STR-1 and MS-20EX to 200 on the CX-3, and the system dynamically allocates processing power between voices and effects.
- The SGX-2 Premium Piano engine offers 100 dual-stereo voices, which is equivalent to 400 mono voices for layered piano arrangements.
- CX-3 Tonewheel Organ: 200 voices — full drawbar stacks with rotary speaker
- HD-1 PCM engine delivers 140 voices with low-aliasing oscillators and full-bandwidth multimode filters
Natural Touch Action and Hands-On Control Surface
The 61-key model uses the brand's Natural Touch semi-weighted action with aftertouch, built for speed and agility. A four-way joystick handles pitch bend and modulation, while a ribbon controller and Vector joystick add further expression.
- Keyboard: 61 keys, Natural Touch semi-weighted, velocity and aftertouch sensitive
- 203 mm TouchView display with SVGA 800x600 resolution and adjustable brightness
- Pedal Inputs: Damper (half-damping supported) plus assignable switch and pedal
Production Tools Built Into the Workstation
Set List mode hosts 16 color-coded touch-screen buttons per song, giving instant access to presets, combinations, and sequences.
- Effects: 16 onboard processors (12 Insert, 2 Master, 2 Total) with 197 effect types
- Onboard sequencer captures 16 MIDI tracks + 16 audio tracks at 1/480 resolution across 200 songs
- Storage: 120 GB internal SSD with approximately 3 GB PCM RAM
Built for Stage Performers, Producers, and Sound Designers
This workstation is the right choice for working keyboardists who need one instrument covering piano, organ, synth, and production. Touring players benefit from the 14.2 kg chassis, 60% faster startup, and Smooth Sound Transition that eliminates dropouts when changing patches. Sound designers can dive into nine engines, from the semi-modular MS-20EX to the waveshaping MOD-7, with assignable modulation routings.
The Korg Workstation Legacy Since 1988
The company created the keyboard workstation category in 1988 with the M1, and the Kronos line has been its flagship since. The original debuted in 2011, followed by Kronos 2 in 2014, and this third generation arrives with a reengineered architecture and 256 new programs.

Oscillators: Yes
A powerful oscillator system allows users to create rich and variable sound textures. Oscillators can generate a variety of waveforms, including sine, square, triangle, and noise, allowing for creativity and experimentation.

Pitch Bend: Yes
The Pitch Bend allows smooth pitch changes, adding expressiveness to musical expression. Often used to create effects such as glissando or vibrato, this feature allows the player to make subtle or dramatic changes to the sound in real time. Pitch bend allows musicians to create smooth transitions between notes, increasing the dynamics and expressiveness of their performances.
Arpeggiator: Yes
The Arpeggiator transforms chords into sequences of individual notes played in various rhythmic and melodic patterns. Instead of playing the chords as a harmonic whole, the Arpeggiator breaks the chords into individual notes and plays them sequentially according to the selected algorithm.
Aftertouch: Yes
Aftertouch technology on the keys allows musicians to add a new level of expression to their playing. When a key reaches the bottom of its stroke, the pressure exerted on the key can continue to be sensed and used to control various aspects of the sound, such as vibrato, volume, or tone modulation.
Modulation: Yes
Modulation allows you to change different aspects of the sound in real time, opening up a wide range of creative possibilities. For example, it can affect the pitch of the sound, creating a vibrato effect, or it can change the amplitude of the signal, creating a tremolo effect. It can also adjust filtering to create smooth transitions between frequency bands and dynamic textures. Modulation can also be used to change the character of the sound depending on the time or intensity of playing, giving the sound a lively and moving character.
Sequencer: Yes
The sequencer provides musicians with a tool for composing and arranging music, allowing them to create and edit musical sequences. This feature allows you to record and play back repeating patterns. This makes it easy to create complex rhythms and melodies. The sequencer also allows you to layer different musical elements on top of each other, sync with other devices, and adjust parameters in real time. This flexibility makes the sequencer an invaluable tool for producing music, experimenting with new sounds and creating original compositions.
Headphone Output: Yes
The headphone output allows direct connection of headphones for private listening. This output provides a convenient way to enjoy the sound without disturbing others or ambient noise.
Microphone Input: Yes
The microphone input allows direct connection of a microphone for recording or amplifying voice or instruments.
MIDI Interface: Yes
It supports MIDI, allowing you to connect and communicate with other MIDI-compatible devices. This feature extends control and integration into the larger music environment, increasing flexibility and creativity in music creation.

Envelope: Yes
The Envelope filter gives you precise control over the dynamics and shape of the sound. This filter provides greater flexibility in adjusting and customizing sound characteristics, enhancing the overall quality and expressiveness of the performance.
LFO: Yes
An LFO, or low frequency oscillator, brings electronic sound to life. It adds movement and interest to synthetic sounds and effects, playing an important role in both subtle synthesis and bold sound design. However, you won't hear the LFO itself because it acts as a modulator. This means that it does not directly affect the audio signal, but adjusts other parameters such as oscillator pitch and filter clipping.
