Impact Soundworks Hegalong is a meticulously crafted virtual instrument that authentically captures the unique sound of the traditional Philippine hegalong, a two-stringed "boat lute" renowned for its bright, resonant tones. Performed by master musician Diwa de Leon (Lionmight), this instrument offers a rich and immersive experience for composers and producers seeking to incorporate authentic Southeast Asian sounds into their music.

The hegalong features two strings: a melody string that can be chromatically fretted and a distinctive drone string tuned to an open pitch, providing a harmonious backdrop to the melody. Traditionally, the hegalong excels in rapid strumming patterns but is versatile enough for soulful melodic playing and upbeat rhythms. Impact Soundworks has captured this versatility by recording the instrument with up to three dynamic layers and eight round-robin variations per articulation, including both up and down strokes, ensuring a natural and expressive performance.

To enhance playability, Hegalong offers two modes for each string:

• Melody String Options:
  Monophonic Mode for traditional single-note melodies
  Polyphonic Mode for chordal playing
• Drone String Options:
  Natural Mode to emulate the traditional set-pitch drone
  Basic Mode to transform the drone string into a keyboard instrument

The instrument's authentic playable range spans from G2 to A4, faithfully replicating the custom-made 24-fret hegalong. It includes essential articulations such as sustain and legato (hammer/pull), along with assorted effects to add realism to performances.
