Frankie Goes to Hollywood

Frankie Goes to Hollywood

Frankie Goes to Hollywood was a groundbreaking English pop band from Liverpool, formed in 1980. The group featured Holly Johnson on vocals, Paul Rutherford on backing vocals, Mark O'Toole on bass, Brian Nash on guitar, and Peter Gill on drums. Known for their bold exploration of sexuality and gay rights themes, they gained international fame after signing with ZTT Records in 1983. Their debut album, Welcome to the Pleasuredome, sold over a million copies before its release, and their first three singles all reached number one in the UK. Controversy boosted their fame when the BBC banned their hit Relax. The band won several major awards, including the Brit Award for Best Breakthrough Act and the Ivor Novello Award for Two Tribes. After a less successful second album, the group split in 1987. Brief reunions followed, including performances in 2004 and a special appearance at the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest.
