Epiphone 1942 Banner J-45 Reissue Vintage Sunburst electro-acoustic guitar

The Gibson J-45™, first introduced in 1942, quickly became one of the most iconic acoustic guitars in the world. Often referred to as “The Workhorse”, it gained its reputation thanks to its straightforward design, subtle elegance, and reliability on stages and in studios across the globe. It remains Gibson’s best-selling acoustic model of all time.

Now, Epiphone proudly presents the 1942 Banner J-45 Reissue, created in close collaboration with Gibson Custom as part of the Inspired by Gibson Custom line. This stunning reissue brings back the magic of the original 1942 “Workhorse,” built for today's players who want both vintage tone and modern performance.

At its core is a thermally aged solid spruce top, reinforced with traditional scalloped X-bracing, delivering a broken-in tone and powerful projection right out of the case. The back and sides are crafted from solid mahogany, providing the warm, balanced sound that’s made the J-45 a long-standing favorite among musicians.

The body features elegant ivory-colored single-ply binding on both the top and back. The one-piece mahogany neck has a distinctive V-shaped profile, topped with an Indian rosewood fretboard that holds 19 frets and is inlaid with classic mother-of-pearl dots.

At the headstock, you’ll find the iconic Gibson “open book” profile, along with the Inspired by Gibson Custom double diamond logo etched into the back. On the front is a gold silkscreened Epiphone logo and a “Epiphone Inspired by Gibson” banner, paying tribute to the original wartime models.

The three-on-a-plate tuners have vintage-style cream buttons and an open-back design, just like the original J-45s. The teardrop-shaped pickguard is another historically accurate touch, and the rectangular rosewood bridge features a compensated bone saddle for precise intonation. The nut and bridge pins are also made from bone, enhancing tone and sustain.

To meet the demands of today’s musicians, the guitar includes a built-in L.R. Baggs™ Element Bronze VTC preamp and under-saddle piezo pickup, with soundhole-mounted volume and tone controls—making it fully stage- and studio-ready.

Each guitar also comes with a RedLine-inspired hardshell case, complete with Inspired by Gibson Custom graphics on the exterior, offering secure protection and classic styling for your next gig or recording session.
