Bloc Party is an English rock band from London, formed in 1999 by Kele Okereke and Russell Lissack. Their early music combined energetic rock with influences from electronica and house, quickly distinguishing them from their peers. The original lineup included Gordon Moakes on bass and Matt Tong on drums, both featured on the band's acclaimed first four albums.
With their 2005 debut album Silent Alarm, Bloc Party received widespread critical praise, winning major indie awards and achieving platinum sales in the UK. They followed this success with A Weekend in the City in 2007 and Intimacy in 2008, both of which made strong chart showings on both sides of the Atlantic. Known for their intense live performances and genre-blending sound, the band has gone through lineup changes and periods of hiatus, but continued to evolve their style.
Current members include Okereke, Lissack, Louise Bartle on drums, and Harry Deacon on bass and synthesizers. Bloc Party released their latest album, Alpha Games, in 2022 and the High Life EP in 2023. Over their career, they have sold over three million albums worldwide.
