BFD 8 BIT Kit (Digital product)
Inject a truly unique and eccentric flavor into your drum tracks with BFD 8 Bit Kit, an exceptional expansion pack for FXpansion's BFD3, BFD Eco, and BFD2. This isn't just another drum library; it's a creative arsenal filled with dozens of esoteric, vintage, and meticulously modified drums, percussion, and beatboxes. Each sound has been prepared and tuned in unconventional ways before being captured with a strange and wonderful array of microphones, all in pristine 24-bit, 44.1kHz quality.
BFD 8 Bit Kit is the brainchild of S. Husky Hoskulds, whose 8 Bit Audio production company has engineered groundbreaking recordings for artists like Tom Waits, Fantômas, Joe Henry, and The Wallflowers. The core philosophy of 8 Bit Kit is to deliver sounds that are not only fascinating but truly different. Imagine kicks detuned and struck with paint rollers or even with chains attached, or modified snares featuring unusual calf-skin or Kevlar heads. You'll also discover unique cracked and warped hi-hats, offering textures far beyond the ordinary.
Beyond the unconventional drum kits, this expansion also includes a variety of percussion elements such as bongos, hand drums, tambourines, claps, and intriguing junk percussion. A significant highlight is the inclusion of vintage analog drum machines, recorded both dry and played out through a custom PA rig in the drum room. These sound fantastic layered with other drums or standing proudly on their own in your mix. For an extra dose of character, selected sounds are also provided in "amped" versions, adding additional texture and grit to your production.
The recording process itself was as unique as the instruments. BFD 8 Bit Kit was captured using microphones as unconventional as the drums themselves, including parabolic "spy mics," Calrec Soundfields, and even microphones with gramophone horns attached. The intimate, tight sound of The Sound Factory in Los Angeles, where it was recorded, offers a distinct character that stands brilliantly on its own but also integrates seamlessly with the larger room sounds found in other BFD libraries, giving you unparalleled flexibility in your mixes.
