Roland SBX-1

Multi-format sync box for computers and electronic instruments that converts incoming performance information from an external device to both CV (pitch) and GATE (note) signals and can be used to play analogue or modular synths. The created LFOs can be output in the unit along with performance information, modulated, and even used as trigger signals. User can also add analogue and modular devices to his computer-based production environment, or design totally new and innovative live performance setups that combine AIRA gear, such as Roland’s TR-8, TB-3, and SYSTEM-1, with vintage analogue or modular synths. The unit keeps everything tight, syncing the analogue and digital devices to the computer, or as the master sync source controlling the tempo of all the devices. In addition to the unit’s internal clock, user can set the master to MIDI, DIN SYNC, or USB/MIDI. Physical knobs for TEMPO and FINE tempo along with TAP tempo give deep control of the overall groove and allow for free adjustment of the timing to sync-up with DJs or other performers in a band. The Shuffle function can add variable swing to patterns generated by external sequencers and rhythm machines – even those that are not equipped with a shuffle function, such as Roland’s TR-808 and TB-303. User can choose between 16th and 8th note swing, and correct timing errors with the quick-access, performance-friendly SYNC button. The sync box comes complete with CV/GATE output jacks so user can control analogue and modular synths from the external MIDI device or computer. MIDI notes and CC information from external sources are converted and output as CV/GATE information, and this creates all kinds of creative possibilities. In the unit, user can also create LFO signals that are synced to either the internal clock or tempo from an external source. It allows for registering up to five types (three types with AUX) of different LFO settings and outputting these as CV signals simultaneously from three channels (CV/BEND/AUX). It also allows for also registering up to five types (three types with AUX) of different MIDI notes as trigger settings and outputting these as GATE signals simultaneously from three channels (CV/GATE/AUX). An AC adaptor is included. Dimensions: 220 x 135 x 52 mm. Weight: 790 g.
