Optical compressing effect pedal with hand-selected photocoupler from Reissue series that offers subtle, transparent compression which does not alter pick attack – with its natural picking response, transparent effect and low-noise operation, it is a perfect compressor for players that do not like compressors. Its optical circuit has a slow, smooth reaction time that allows the initial note attack to pass through without being compressed, creating a more natural picking feel. At the heart of the circuit sits a single CdS (Cadmium Sulphur) Photocoupler, a light-sensitive component that varies resistance based on the input signal to control the amp gain, increasing level as the input signal weakens. Many other compressors accomplish this task using a VCA (voltage controlled amplifier), but the multiple transistors packed into a VCA inevitably lead to high noise levels, which means lots of “hiss” from the rig. Thanks to its optical circuit, this pedal has one of the lowest noise floors available in a stompbox compressor, even with its Level and Compression controls set to max. Plus, its 4:1 compression ratio is so subtle that it is easy to forget that the effect is on. While it is on, user can notice note levels that are smoother and more consistent, chords and arpeggios that are tighter and more focused, and sustain that will last for days.
