He relies on his EMG 81/85 set for his aggressive tone and sustain. This classic setup comes complete with long shaft volume and tone controls for installation in Zakk’s beloved Les Paul or similar styled guitars. Both pickups feature gold-plated caps with iconic Buzzsaw graphic. The EMG 81 humbucker pickup is one of the most popular EMG’s pickups and is traditionally used in the bridge position. It utilizes powerful a ceramic magnet and close aperture coils for intense and detailed tone with incredible amount of high end cut and fluid sustain, that will cut even through the densest mix. The EMG 85 humbucker pickup is one of EMGs first pickups and is the slightly more sophisticated and well-rounded half of its famous brother, the 81 pickup. Featuring close aperture coils loaded with Alnico V magnet, it is a powerful guitar pickup with exceptional tone and versatility. The Alnico magnet of this model provide a muscular growl and smooth lead tones enabling user to play everything from the blues to the most extreme metal. Although often used in the neck position, it sounds great as a bridge pickup thanks to its exceptional smoothness and soul.
